Creating a new piece of history on Anna Maria Island
Anna Maria Historic Green Village is a unique and sustainable development, comprising a selection of new and compassionately renovated green buildings for commercial and retail use, powered wholly by renewable energy, including solar energy and ground heat sources, to become the first Zero Net Energy and Platinum LEED certified campus in Florida.
The vision that is the Green Village has been developed by us, Mike and Lizzie Thrasher, after discovering the 100-year-old Island City of Anna Maria in 2005 on vacation. Since then we have spent most of the past few years developing eight luxury Anna Maria Island villas under the Pineapplefish name, and establishing and developing 2 successful business projects. The first project was Beach Bums, an Anna Maria Island rental store, that makes bikes, kayaks, golf carts and other equipment available to the local residents and holidaymakers. And, the second, the Anna Maria General Store, a once tired store from the 1950's, which was revived, re-painted and re-stocked with delicious home made deli style and local produce.
The Anna Maria Historic Green Village is built across 5 plots on the historic 'Main Street' of Anna Maria City - Pine Avenue, among them an empty overgrown plot a derelict house and a warehouse. In addition to these buildings, we have also bought 2 other historic buildings to the site; literally lifting them onto trucks from their current standing on the Island, and moving them onto the site of the Green Village - The Sears Cottage, a derelict 1915 Sears Catalog home, and The Angler's Lodge, a magnificent but long neglected home from 1935.
The Anna Maria Historic Green Village is likely to become home to to a medical centre, a gallery, other professional service and retail space as well as beautiful gardens for everyone to enjoy. Already, the Green Village has welcomed the Village Cafe at Rosedale, and Really Relish, a fabulous vintage clothing store which can be found at home in the Sears Cottage.
The Historic Green Village aims to create a new standard for sustainability and become a leading and compelling example of how we can embrace the past, and play a role in being responsible for the future of our environment.
