Moving Day!
On June 8th 2010, we embarked on a mammoth, exciting and historic move. We moved a 75-year-old cottage, half a mile along Pine Avenue in Anna Maria, to it's new place as part of the Historic Green Village.
Donated to us, by it's owner, this original Sears Cottage is one of two buildings that we are, for a better word, 'recycling'. Part of a number of different elements that contribute to our unique green development that is Anna Maria Historic Green Village.
The Sears Cottage is also a piece of Anna Maria History, something which we also believe is important to preserve. Originally purchased from the Sears Catalogue in 1935, the lumber for the home would have arrived and built piece by piece - a flat pack home!
It took over a week for our construction team Gagne Construction to prepare and load the cottge onto a truck, and then 3 hours for it to move to it's new position on the Green Village, which was just 1/2 mile away.
We were delighted to see so many of the Island residents come out and share this event with us. It's not every day you see a house on wheels! And, the City was gracious to close Pine Avenue for the morning, so that we could manage the move easily and take the time that we needed. We even had local media from Fox 13 and Bay News 9 come and cover the story!
