Anna Maria General Store is the only independent retailer in the heart of Anna Maria Island. It recently changed hands when Mike and Lizzie Thrasher took it over on 18th February. Mike and Lizzie who already own Beach Bums rentals and Pineapplefish luxury vacation rentals in Anna Maria Island want to see the potential of the store fully realised.
They aim to bring this 60ft square building back to its former glory, providing the Islands community with a wide range of products from the daily basic shopping needs to more exciting deli-style speciality foods, great quality coffee and a wide range of newspapers.
In addition, they plan to increase the retail space by over 40% by converting the storage and living areas at the back to more retail space plus a food preparation area. Mike, an interior designer, has already submitted the exciting and original store re-design to City Hall and is waiting for final planning agreement.
New owner, Lizzie Thrasher said "We are very excited to be able to service the local community from the General Store - it is such a historic institution. It is our intention to really bring it back to what it used to be and then go further. We are asking all the local residents to tell us what they want the store to stock and what they want it to be. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone to the new General Store"
